SpendWise is an Android app published by Mody Associates and presented by Fun Fat Studios. It keeps a list of the subscriptions you pay for, adds up what they cost each month, and reminds you before one renews. This notice describes exactly what the app does with your information and what it does not do.
Summary
Everything you enter stays in a database on your phone. There is no SpendWise account, no sign-up, no publisher server, no advertising and no analytics service. Your subscriptions are never uploaded to us. The only network traffic the app's own code makes is to Google Play, and only for the optional one-time unlock.
No accounts, no e-mail, no profile
- There is no online account, profile or username. The app does not ask for your e-mail address and never reads the Google account on your device.
- Notification permission is requested only if you turn reminders on, and it lets the app post local reminders. It gives no access to your messages, contacts or accounts.
- The optional unlimited-subscriptions unlock belongs to your Google Play account and Google Play handles it. SpendWise never sees your payment details, your Google account address or your name.
What stays on your device
SpendWise stores these in a private SQLite database inside the app's own storage, which other apps cannot read:
- Subscriptions you add: name, amount, currency, billing cycle, next renewal date, category, status and optional notes.
- Payment history you record and reminders you schedule.
- The optional card label you may type to tell your cards apart (for example “Visa ••42”). Full card numbers are rejected by the app and are never stored.
- A random install identifier, kept in the app's no-backup directory. It exists only so a restored purchase cannot be handed to a different install, and it is not backed up.
None of this is transmitted anywhere. There is no publisher backend, no sync, no cloud copy and no export to us.
Paste a receipt
The Paste a receipt feature reads text (for example a receipt or renewal e-mail you copied) and fills in the form for you. That text is parsed entirely on your device: it is never uploaded, never written to the database and discarded as soon as the form is filled. Card-number-like sequences are blanked before anything is read, so a card number in pasted text is never displayed as an amount or stored. The app has no access to your e-mail, inbox or clipboard history; you choose what to paste.
What the app does not collect
- No analytics, crash-reporting or attribution SDK is included in the app.
- No advertising SDK is included, and the advertising-ID permission is not present in the released manifest. There are no banner, interstitial or pop-up ads.
- No contacts, no location, no microphone, no camera, no calendar, no photos and no phone data. The app declares none of those permissions.
- No browsing history, no installed-app list, no keystrokes and no screen content.
Permissions in the released app
The final merged manifest of the released build contains exactly these entries:
| Permission | Why it exists |
|---|---|
android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS | Posts the local renewal reminders you turn on. Requested at runtime, only when you enable reminders. |
android.permission.SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM | Lets a reminder fire at the time of day you chose instead of whenever the phone wakes up. It schedules local alarms only. |
android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | Re-registers your pending reminders after the phone restarts, so they are not lost. |
android.permission.WAKE_LOCK | Keeps the device awake for the moment a reminder is delivered. |
android.permission.VIBRATE | Vibrates with a reminder notification if your phone is set to do that. |
android.permission.INTERNET | Used for Google Play Billing only (price lookup, the purchase flow, acknowledging a completed purchase and restoring one). |
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Used to tell you honestly when Play cannot be reached, instead of failing silently. |
com.android.vending.BILLING | Required for the optional one-time in-app purchase. |
Network use
- Google Play Billing. When you open the unlock offer, buy it or restore it, the app asks Google Play for the localised price, starts the purchase, completes (acknowledges) it, and checks purchases you already own. That traffic goes to Google Play and is governed by Google's privacy policy. The app never contacts a publisher server.
- Nothing else. Adding, editing, pausing, deleting, the monthly total, search and pasting a receipt all work with the network switched off, and do the same thing with it on.
- Links you tap. Privacy, support and licence links open in your browser or e-mail app only when you tap them.
Reminders
Reminders are local notifications scheduled by Android on your device. They are not push messages: no notification server of ours is involved, and no device token is ever created or shared. What a reminder says (subscription name and amount) is read from your local database at the moment it is shown.
Backups
The app allows Android's own Auto Backup, with rules that include the subscription database and exclude the install identifier. If you have Android backup enabled, your phone may copy that database to your own Google Drive, encrypted, under your Google account. That copy is controlled by you and Google, not by us, and we cannot read it. Turn off Android backup in your phone's settings if you would rather not have it. Restoring a backup onto a new phone restores your subscription list; purchases are restored separately through Google Play.
Deleting your data
- Use Delete in the app to remove a subscription, or Android's Clear storage to remove everything.
- Uninstalling SpendWise removes the local database. There is no server-side copy to request deletion of, because there is no server.
- If Android backup is on, a copy may remain in your own Google Drive account; delete it from your Google account's backup settings.
- A purchase is tied to your Google Play account. Refunds and revocations are handled by Google Play.
Children
SpendWise is a general-audience tool for people managing their own paid subscriptions. It is not directed at children, has no social features, no user-generated content sharing and no advertising.
Changes to this notice
If a future version changes how data is handled — for example adding a feature that needs a new permission — this notice will be updated first and the effective date above will change. The version shipping the change will describe it in the Google Play listing.
